If
you want to create a web presence,
here's
what you need to know first.
 |
|
|
|
YOUR OWN DOMAIN
NAME: This is what sets you apart from everyone else!
Rather than being a 'sub' web of someone else's domain (whoever.com/users/mypage
)
you have your OWN, individual
identity, such as
crowndiamond.net.
Most of the common names are taken, so you may need to get creative.
You can choose from .com, .biz, .info, .ws, .net or .org - although .org is usually
associated with non-profit organizations. Search for available names - but shop around, prices for
the same service vary greatly!!!
In fact, if find a domain name you really
like, but you don't have the time or money to develop a website with it -
buy it anyway and either 'park it' (meaning you own it aren't doing
anything with it yet) or forward to your ineways site until you are ready
to create your own. |
HOSTING: This is where the content of your site is
physically stored. There are many hosting sources - check out those
and compare the advertisers to the left - not all hosting companies are
created equally.
This is a simple way to create
"name recognition" even with your own ineways site! You
can purchase a domain name, and then - with no added cost for monthly
hosting - you can have that name forward to your ineways
site! (And, at any time, you can remove the forwarding and create
your own content for your site)
You most likely won't need a merchant
account, but a PayPal account is helpful
for everyone doing business online.

WEB DESIGN:
The simplest thing to do, is have your new domain name
point to your ineways site. But if you want to create a separate,
independent web presence, then you'll need to create content and have it
hosted. There are some relatively inexpensive 'do-it-yourself'
website creators (several hosting companies offer these), but you don't
have as much flexibility. You can learn to do it yourself, or you can pay
someone else to do it.
Just remember that if you use Neways name
or products on your site, there are guidelines which must be
followed. You can find them in Neways new Policies & Procedures
manual.
Allison (Margie's assistant, and
webmistress of this site) takes on a few site design jobs each year and
charges about half the going rate for web designers. If you are
interested in having her help you create your own website, send her an
email through the contact form.
|
Once you have created a
site - you need to market it. Let people know it's there, and attract visitors to
become informed, make purchases, or join your business. There
are many ways to do this - more information will be added in the
future.
